Tooling Design Graduate

As the Tooling Design Graduate you will be working alongside our Tooling Development Manager and be involved in all aspects of Tooling design, development and maintenance from the concept stage and onwards, in order to support effective delivery of the business KPI’s and strategy.
Taking a creative thinking approach, you will look to ensure customer needs are considered and collaborate with the operations team to ensure products are designed for efficiently.
Responsibilities:
- Design press tools as required to meet customer needs and requirements.
- Liaise closely with all relevant departments to fully understand design requirements.
- Capture and specify the design requirements, as well as any development and validation needed to deliver successful press tools, products and components to meet/exceed the customer’s specification.
- Use 2D and 3D CAD to produce designs, drawings and models to make design changes.
- Look to improve productivity, efficiency, environmental impact and reduce costs while ensuring you support the production of high-quality products that meet required standards.
- Developing, implementing, monitoring, and reporting on relevant KPIs to evaluate and achieve efficiency and performance (including real time metrics data collection), and analysing data to inform future strategy and approaches.
- Look to drive a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration and innovation, with an emphasis on embracing technology to maximise efficiency.
- Ensuring compliance with all Health and Safety requirements and policies.
- Drive forward product development, innovation and ‘think outside the box’ to generate engineering advantage for customers, thinking creatively to develop new/improved solutions.
- Identify and implement design improvements (functionality, cost, and design for manufacture).
- Manage the relationship with external provider/s in respect to tool manufacturer, maintenance and repair.
Knowledge / Experience:
- An engineering background with involvement with Machine tools and processes.
- Proficient in CAD packages or similar.
- Understanding engineering drawings and requirements.
- Customer focused to ensure an efficient and optimised operations function and embedding a customer-centric team culture.
- Previous experience in a fast-paced Manufacturing environment – ideally food manufacturing or equivalent.
- Good standard of education, with demonstrable skills in customer service, relationship building, problem solving and excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Demonstrates a good sense of priorities, structures workload effectively and delivers consistently good results.
- Attention to detail across all aspects of the role.
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing requirements of the business.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under time pressures.
- Uses own initiative to work with minimal guidance.
- Good IT Proficiency (Outlook, Excel, Word) with the ability to learn and use business-specific applications.
