Motorbike Dealership – Abingdon, Oxfordshire

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Management Accountant to join a busy motorbike dealership based in Abingdon, Oxfordshire.

This is a varied, hands-on finance role covering management accounts, payroll, ledger control, reconciliations, VAT, stock-related accounting and general finance administration. The current role supports the business across monthly reporting, payroll, VAT, year-end preparation, ledger management, bank reconciliations and stock-related finance processes.

The role is part-time, around 25 – 30 hours per week, with flexibility around working pattern. This could be structured as shorter days across five days, or three to four longer days per week. The position is hybrid, although the role will be primarily based on site near Abingdon, with some working from home.

Key Responsibilities

The role will include:

  • Preparing monthly management accounts and supporting reports.
  • Posting and reviewing journals, including accruals, prepayments and depreciation.
  • Maintaining and reconciling key balance sheet accounts.
  • Managing payroll processing, reporting and ongoing payroll maintenance.
  • Preparing VAT returns and supporting related reconciliations.
  • Overseeing nominal ledger, cashbook, purchase ledger and sales ledger activity.
  • Supporting stock control and stock-related finance processes.
  • Preparing information for year-end accounts and external Accountants / Auditors.
  • Managing supplier payments, customer receipts and general finance administration.
  • Liaising with colleagues across the business to resolve finance queries and ensure accurate records.

About You

The successful candidate will be confident working independently and taking ownership of regular finance processes. You will be organised, accurate and comfortable working to deadlines in a busy small or medium-sized business environment.

You will need a good practical understanding of accounting processes, payroll and Excel, and be able to communicate clearly with both finance and non-finance colleagues.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Relevant accounting qualification, such as AAT, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience preparing management accounts.
  • Strong payroll experience, including processing, reporting and maintenance.
  • Good understanding of journals, including depreciation, accruals and prepayments.
  • Sound knowledge of nominal ledger, cashbook, purchase ledger and sales ledger.
  • Understanding of stock control and stock-related accounting.
  • Strong Excel skills, particularly pivot tables and VLOOKUP.
  • Ability to work independently and manage recurring deadlines.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience in a dealership, motor trade, retail or stock-based business.
  • Experience working in a small finance team or standalone finance role.
  • Familiarity with accounting or dealership management systems.

Working Pattern

This is a part-time position of approximately 25 – 30 hours per week. The hours can be arranged flexibly, either as shorter days over five days or longer days across three to four days.

The role will be mainly office-based near Abingdon, Oxfordshire, with some flexibility to work from home.
