We are seeking a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support children with autism and complex needs in a rewarding, hands-on school environment.

Position: Learning Support Assistant (LSA)
Salary: £20,021 to £23,049 (term-time only)
Location: Powys, Mid Wales
Hours: Full-Time, Term-Time Only
Contract: Permanent
 

About the Role

This is a varied and highly rewarding role where learning goes beyond the classroom. You will support pupils with autism and complex needs to build confidence, develop independence and engage in meaningful day-to-day experiences.

You will work both indoors and outdoors, supporting structured learning as well as practical activities such as cooking, gardening and community-based experiences.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assisting teachers with lessons, activities and behaviour support
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and emotional regulation
  • Supporting daily routines, transitions and personal care where required
  • Delivering engaging learning experiences both in and outside the classroom
  • Supporting life skills such as cooking, gardening and independence
  • Building strong, consistent and trusting relationships with pupils

This role can be physically and emotionally demanding. Some pupils may display behaviours of concern, so a calm, patient and consistent approach is essential.

About You

We are looking for someone who is passionate about making a difference and supporting young people to thrive.

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience working with children or vulnerable individuals in education, care or support settings
  • A patient, calm and resilient approach
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • GCSEs in English and Maths or equivalent
  • Basic IT skills

Desirable:

  • Qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or similar
