Learning and Engagement Lead

Reports To: Provision Manager

Line Manages: Tutors, Carers (in relation to engagement strategies)

Purpose of Role

To lead on curriculum design, learner engagement, and inclusive practice across the provision. The Learning and Engagement Lead ensures educational activities are meaningful, therapeutic, and meet individual needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and coordinate bespoke timetables and learning journeys for each student.
  • Support staff in adapting learning resources and teaching methods to meet various cognitive, behavioural, and communication needs.
  • Lead enrichment activities including creative arts, life skills, outdoor learning, and social skills.
  • Monitor attendance, participation, and educational progress.
  • Conduct coaching, mentoring, and reflective sessions with Tutors and Support Workers.
  • Contribute to multi-agency reviews and ensure education provision aligns with EHCPs.
  • Promote inclusive education that reflects children lived experiences and interests.

Essential Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Experience supporting individuals with behaviour that challenges, including implementing positive behaviour support strategies.
  • Proven ability to deliver person-centred support that promotes independence and respects individual rights.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage confidently with families, professionals, and external agencies.
  • Ability to assess risk and develop effective support plans tailored to the needs of individuals.
  • Confident in managing safeguarding concerns, with a clear understanding of safeguarding legislation and procedures for both children and adults.
  • Organisational and time management skills, including the ability to prioritise and work under pressure.
  • Ability to maintain clear, accurate records and use digital systems for care planning, monitoring, and reporting.
  • A reflective and proactive approach to personal development and continuous service improvement.
  • Relevant care or health and social care qualification at Level 3 or above (e.g. Diploma in Health & Social Care, or equivalent).
  • A full, clean UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work-related travel.

Desirable Skills, Experience and Knowledge:

  • Experience working within or alongside an educational setting, especially supporting children and young people not in traditional education.
  • Knowledge or experience of Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and their role in multi-agency planning for children and young people.
  • Experience with tender writing and understanding of public sector commissioning processes.
  • Experience in grant applications and sourcing external funding to support services or projects.
  • Additional relevant training or qualifications in areas such as safeguarding, PBS, trauma-informed practice, or SEND.
  • Experience supervising staff or leading small teams in a care or education environment.
  • Confidence in delivering staff training or workshops or presenting to external partners and professionals.
  • Understanding of CQC frameworks and experience working within regulated services.
