Shape the Future of High-Reliability Electronics
Are you the kind of engineer who thrives on complex challenges? Do you enjoy taking a problem apart, figuring out how it works and then building something even better? If so, our client wants to hear from you.
Our client is working with a forward-thinking engineering company based in Derby to find a Lead Electronics Engineer who’s ready to take the reins on technically demanding projects. This is a hands-on, leadership-level role for someone who wants to make a real impact.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Leading end-to-end electronics projects: hardware, firmware, embedded systems, and control.
- Taking ownership of designs from concept through to delivery and customer integration.
- Mentoring junior engineers and apprentices, helping shape the next generation of talent.
- Interfacing directly with customers to gather requirements and troubleshoot in the real world.
- Driving technical decisions, risk assessments, and project planning.
You’ll be supported by a skilled and collaborative team, but you’ll also have the autonomy to lead, design, and deliver in your own style.
What’s in It for You?
- Competitive Salary: £40k–£50k depending on experience.
- Work-Life Balance: 37-hour week with a Friday lunchtime finish.
- Time Off: 28 days’ holiday (including bank holidays), with 3 reserved for Christmas.
- Room to Grow: Influence projects, innovate solutions, and take real ownership.
- Tech You’ll Care About: Work on legacy systems and bleeding-edge electronics, often on the same day.
What You’ll Bring
Essential
- Strong hands-on electronics experience across hardware and firmware.
- Confident working with high voltages, power systems, and risk-sensitive environments.
- Able to balance multiple complex projects with real-world constraints.
- Excellent communicator- comfortable talking tech with engineers or project goals with clients.
- A calm, capable leader who can guide and develop junior team members.
Desirable (but not essential)
If you tick some of these, you're already ahead of the pack:
- Embedded C/C++/Python development (8- or 32-bit targets).
- Firmware standards (MISRA) and debugging tools (JTAG, SWD).
- PCB layout (e.g., KiCad), SPICE simulation, or high-speed digital design.
- Experience with mission-critical or ruggedised equipment (rail, defence, aerospace).
- Strong workshop/lab skills; soldering, harness building, machining, etc.
Why You?
Because you’re not just looking for a job, you’re looking for a role where you can build, mentor, and solve real engineering challenges with freedom and support. You're not scared of legacy tech, and you get a kick out of getting things working again or reinventing them entirely.
