Role OverviewAs an Estimator, you will play a key role in the pre-construction and tendering phase, preparing accurate cost estimates for lightning protection and earthing projects. You will work closely with internal teams, suppliers, and clients to ensure competitive and commercially viable bids.
The role is critical in helping the business win contracts while maintaining profitability and compliance.
Key Responsibilities- Analyse project drawings, specifications, and technical documents
- Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, labour, and equipment
- Source and negotiate prices from suppliers and subcontractors
- Compile and submit competitive tenders and quotations
- Assess project risks and identify cost-saving/value engineering opportunities
- Liaise with project managers, engineers, and clients during the bidding process
- Maintain accurate cost databases and pricing records
- Support handover of successful bids to delivery teams
- Previous experience as an Estimator (construction, M&E, or specialist subcontractor preferred)
- Strong understanding of construction processes and cost planning
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
- Commercial awareness and attention to detail
- Excellent numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and negotiation abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
- HNC/HND or Degree in Construction, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or similar
- Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. lightning protection BS EN standards desirable)
- Full UK driving licence
- Highly organised with the ability to meet deadlines
- Proactive and commercially minded
- Strong team player with the confidence to challenge costs and assumptions
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced tendering environment
- Producing accurate and competitive cost estimates
- Contributing to a high bid win rate
