JOB TITLE: Contracts Manager

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Contracts Manager is responsible for the safe, efficient, and commercially successful delivery of contracts across the Low Speed business. The role oversees day-to-day operations, manages customer relationships, drives productivity, and contributes to business growth.
The successful candidate will ensure high standards of safety, operational performance, and customer satisfaction while managing contract costs and identifying new opportunities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Health & Safety Leadership
- Ensure all works are delivered safely and in line with Chevron procedures.
- Confirm operatives are trained, competent, and fit for work.
- Conduct regular site visits to verify safe working practices.
- Deliver safety briefings, toolbox talks, and contract methodology updates.
- Promote and uphold Chevron’s safety culture.
Operational Management
- Oversee programming of schemes and allocation of TM crews.
- Manage daily operational performance and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure works meet contract specifications and industry best practice.
- Monitor plant, vehicle usage, and depot resources.
- Line management of assigned coordination teams.
- Support coordinators and supervisors in delivering high-quality service.
Commercial & Financial Responsibility
- Manage contract expenditure and control costs.
- Understand and monitor the commercial position of each contract.
- Drive productivity and ensure efficient use of resources.
- Contribute to forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting.
Customer Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients to secure repeat business.
- Ensure excellent customer service and delivery standards.
- Engage with customers to understand their needs and expectations.
- Address customer queries and concerns promptly and professionally.
Business Development
- Identify new opportunities within the region.
- Build relationships with potential new customers.
- Follow up on leads provided by the wider Chevron business.
- Support the Senior Contracts Manager in developing the business.
SCOPE OF THE JOB
The Contracts Manager oversees all contracts delivered by the depot and plays a key role in operational and commercial performance.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS
Essential
- Demonstrable experience in traffic management or highways/utility maintenance.
- Strong understanding of the highways and utilities market.
- Solid commercial awareness and ability to manage P&L elements.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-moving, high-performing team.
- Strong networking and relationship-building skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- IOSH Managing Safely/SSSTS/SMSTS or equivalent.
- Lantra qualifications (12a/b, 12d, TSCO).
- TM design CAD software experience.
- TTME course.
- Additional commercial or business management qualifications.
