Chair of Board of Trustees
The Hardman Trust is seeking a new Chair to lead our Board of Trustees as we enter our next phase of development.
With a new strategy launching in 2026, we are seeking a Chair to help shape the Trust’s next phase of growth and impact. We aim to extend our reach, strengthen our services, and increase our impact for people serving long prison sentences. The incoming Chair will play a central role in guiding this next phase and ensuring the organisation is governed effectively and sustainably.
About The Hardman Trust
Established in 1994, The Hardman Trust specialises in the unique needs of people serving long sentences. We provide tailored, practical, and financial support to help individuals move into work or training, build confidence and belonging, and achieve their personal goals within and beyond prison.
We are a values-driven organisation with a small, committed team and an engaged Board. A governance review is planned for 2026, making this an important time to join the Trust.
The Role
The Chair leads the Board of Trustees and is responsible for ensuring effective governance, clear strategic direction and sound financial oversight.
Working closely with the CEO, the Chair will:
The time commitment is approximately 2 days per month, including 4 Board meetings per year (2 in person in London and 2 virtual). This is a voluntary role; reasonable expenses are reimbursed.
Who We Are Looking For
We are seeking an experienced and strategic leader with prior trustee experience, strong governance knowledge and leadership experience within the criminal or wider social justice sector. Experience chairing boards or senior meetings is essential.
