Centre for Workplace Equity
Board Member Vacancy
Role Description & Person Specification
The Centre for Workplace Equity is looking to establish its first full Board of Trustees to co-create the organisation’s vision, mission and objectives.
The Centre for Workplace Equity (CWE) is a new Scottish-registered international charity dedicated to advancing equity in workplaces globally,
with a focus on NGOs and civil society organisations. It will provide evidence-based consulting, diagnostics, and interventions specifically to that
sector, maintain a resource database on workplace equity, and run campaigns to promote systemic change. The Centre will co-create its vision,
mission, and objectives with a globally representative Board, ensuring diverse regional and intersectional perspectives, especially from the Global
South shape its work.
The Board of Trustees
CWE’s Board of Trustees exists to provide strategic oversight, guidance, and stewardship in advancing the Centre’s mission. The Board supports the
Centre by shaping its long-term vision, ensuring alignment with its values and objectives, and upholding high standards of governance and
accountability. In addition, the Board serves as a source of expertise, advocacy, and connection, helping to strengthen the Centre’s impact, build
collaborative partnerships, and champion workplace equity across sectors and global regions. The full Terms of Reference for the Board of Trustees can
be viewed here.
About You
We are looking for 10–15 Board members who can bring a breadth of perspectives, lived experiences, and professional expertise. Collectively,
members will contribute knowledge across areas such as human resources, people and culture, social justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, feminism,
finance, fundraising, organisational governance, policy, research, and communications. We are also keen to hear from individuals who may have an
interest in acting as the Chair, Secretary or Treasurer of the Board (role descriptions to be shared at a later date).
CWE particularly welcomes interest from individuals and communities whose voices are underrepresented in governance and leadership. This
includes (but is not limited to) women, people from historically marginalised racial and ethnic backgrounds (Global Majority), disabled people,
neurodivergent people, LGBTQ+ and gender-diverse individuals, people with long-term health conditions or chronic illnesses, people from working-class
communities, migrants, refugees and asylum seekers, people from the Global South, those in informal or insecure employment, carers, younger and older
workers, people of faith and from belief communities, and those from rural or geographically marginalised areas. We believe that centring such
perspectives is essential to advancing genuine workplace equity.
This is an exciting and unique opportunity to work with a global team of Board members to build the foundations of a new NGO working to advance
equity.

Board Members are expected to:
Occupy the role for at least one year (renewable by agreement with the
Board)
Attend 4 - 6 Board meetings each year (1.5 - 2 hours per meeting)

Those Board members with a particular appetite to do so, may
